Inspired by the last supermoon of the summer and my recent trip to the Southwest U.S., I’ve painted a very large (for me) 15″x20″ watercolor wolf. I love the textures and shading. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything in this size in watercolors and had to overcome a few challenges to get back in the groove. It’s been literally years since I had to deal with glazing, softening edges, deepening shadows and unifying color on such a large scale. Fun times! I’m happy with the result. The original will be available once it’s been photographed for reprints.

I’ve mentioned before, I’m a certified cetacean nut! And humpback whales are my favorite. The humpback whales have been so numerous and active here this past week that I’ve actually strained my eyes and given myself headaches from going out several times a day to watch them with my binoculars while they feed, lunge, breach and play just offshore.
Needless to say, I’m in heaven.
And, they’ve inspired me to paint and sketch them almost non-stop. Here’s a watercolor painting I just finished. Do you love whales, too?
I can’t believe it’s been two months since my last post. The Etsy store is doing very well – so much better for me than Fine Art America I’m sorry to say. What’s nice is that I was able to lower my print prices substantially since the commission I pay is lower.
Here’s a collage of some of my recent works in the past few months. I highly recommend you follow me/Like my page on FaceBook if you are interested in seeing more work-in-progress shots as well as GIVEAWAYS!
Sorry for the ugly copyright marks, but some people just don’t take a hint about using copyrighted works.
It’s been a busy month. I was able to knock out a logo for my best friend’s upcoming venture into the world of chocolates and other tasty treats. I also completed two requests for work – one a purple butterfly and the other a gorgeous owl – both in watercolor and also available as prints in my Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AprilleLiptonArt). I still have two more commissions to work on – another owl in acrylic and a graduation gift that will include a heart and special quote for a wonderful girl.
And yet again, I neglect my blog. But it’s for the greater good! I’ve been painting. Still trying to ferret out my style but I think I’m on the right track.
I’ve been loving my sketches but not so much once they make it to canvas or paper and I paint.
Some came out better than others.
Then I tried to loosen up… and LOVED the results. Here’s Peace and Dove II – 8×10 acrylic on canvas. More in this style to follow.
